Third Friday Group at WINEVAULT We will open a few bottles of old, properly aged wine (or otherwise!) to judge for ourselves the value of correct storage of wine. You will be encouraged to bring a bottle of your own to open and taste with us. Decanting services will be provided. Limited to 18 places. Vintage Cellars Wine Club "Introduction To Wine"
Have you ever loved a wine, but didn‘t know why? Do you struggle to find the words to describe it? If this sounds familiar, then Introduction to Wine will help enhance your enjoyment of wine. It provides a sound foundation of wine knowledge to the experienced wine-lover or the absolute beginner. Ian starts with the tasting basics then looks at identifying faults. You‘ll taste the characteristics of grape varieties and learn the regional characteristics of Australian and imported wines. No assumed knowledge. Cost: $195 pp (2 day course)– includes a copy of the book "a top drop" and an Australian Wine Regions map. Vintage Cellars Wine Club "Bordeaux and Burgundy" This tasting allows us to get a good look at how some leading Australian red wines measure up to the world‘s benchmarks. Bails will pull the corks on 6 current release red Burgundies including Premier Crus, then line them up next to some top-flight Aussie Pinot Noirs. Then you‘ll look at 6 Bordeaux reds including some Grand Crus, next to some leading Australian Cabernet-based blends. At the end of the session you‘ll have a greater understanding of the wines of Burgundy and Bordeaux and how some of the leading Australian examples look in comparison. Tastings" Join Bails for a retrospective tasting of 10 different vintage of Riesling and Shiraz. You‘ll gain an understanding of vintage variation and how these wines evolve over time. Experience first hand by tasting how Eden Valley Riesling and Hunter Valley Shiraz develops with time in the bottle. Bails will open 10 vintages of St Helga Riesling and show you why Eden Valley Riesling is one of Australia‘s most age-worthy. You‘ll then have a look at 10 vintages of Mt Pleasant Phillip Shiraz and see how this idiosyncratic Hunter red develops great complexity in the bottle.
